The Room With A View

Our Sunroom TWENTYFIVE

Being Nice is over.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007.

It's Down And Dirty Time.

Out comes the Camera.

My two last Emails to the CONtractor - Nice Guys Corp. Being nice is over.

This is very funny. Funny because after sending these two Emails, I really got into studying the Plans.
Here they are:

Subject: SUNROOM - NIGHT VISIONS

Pssst,
All is still. It's almost midnight this fine Friday night. A light breeze blowing; warm; a few scattered clouds; the moon in the SE.

I'm having my last cup of coffee, and smoke of the day under the stars...the sunroom panels erected but a few days ago, though just that - panels, do give a sort of sense of security already...they are quite substantial...a study in themselves also.

To share this moment with you, I took this photo...rather unique I'd say:

It's at this point in the construction, when it's realized what a fine structure this will turn out to be. It's also when one gets interested in the plans.
For me, I guess it's what sold us on the Sunroom, and that's its peak, with those nice triangular, and quadrilateral windows...it's height also lending to hanging a nice fan.
The room's glory is in that peak, and you envision getting the maximum possible height as the plans show. I shouldn't get anxious, but that's how old sailors are...we worry about the most mundane things.

In the meantime, and I have nothing to do with this, but there are some varmints out there in the still of the night. I'll introduce them to you here:

Hi, I'm the resident killer squirrel...attics are my delight!

Mine too!

Me too! Ha ha!

However, we have stuffed these accesses to the attic with some plastic sheeting, and in one case, a small throw rug, but how effective that will be remains to be seen. There's always something...isn't there?

These openings are necessary in this point of the construction.

Eventually, the overhangs in their entirety will have to be removed, leaving quite large accesses for these varmints...not to mention rain.
Whoa is me! The dreaded rain.

Hmmmmmm.

Carl

The next one is my last email to these people. I don't know why I wasted my time trying to be civil with them.

Subject: TERRIFIC PLANS. THOUGHTS ON DOME HOMES

Hello VP's name,
I have been studying the Sunroom Plans, and I am genuinely impressed.
Ordinarily I don't suppose too many people pay much attention to the plans...I wouldn't have if it weren't for the work load I can imagine you're facing. These lapses in construction have afforded me the opportunity to compare the plans to the end product at my leisure, and it sure is interesting.

The materials are impressive...the Internet giving high marks for what your company has chosen to use in the Sunroom's construction.
Ships, and their construction I'm familiar with...land structures, like houses never appealed to me, always considering their construction minimal when you see the devistation like the recent tornado in Kansas.

Seeing what's being put into my sunroom, and how it's being used, gives me a certain confidence...your website's declaration of it being impervious to Category Four Hurricane's ( winds up to 150 mph ) isn't far-fetched...I believe it could withstand that. The house may be gone, but not the sunroom. Ha ha.

If there is one thing as a sailor now retired after thirty-seven years at sea, and having been in countless storms, is why, when it's been proven, we don't see more attention given to building Concrete Monolithic Dome Homes. They are Tornado-proof; fire-proof; and bug-proof. Has Nice Guys Corp ever thought of getting into that field of home, and industrial building. It has to be the structure of the future.

With the weather people predicting more, and stronger storms with forecast climatic changes, and the loss of life associated with these timber, and tar paper homes called buildings, I'd think soon the acceptance of "round" over "square" will soon be the norm. Nothing like getting in on the ground floor.

I do realize that the Lumber Lobbyists aren't interested in safety, but soon someone is going to site these Dome Homes as the only answer.
Whatta ya think?
Carl
