The Room With A View

Our Sunroom ELEVEN

Monday Feb 19 2007
Not the brightest.
Many ask how we put up with this sunroom run-around.

Using Microsoft's application - Paint, I drew out a simple aerial view showing the sunroom with combination flat, and peaked roof.

Isn't that neat?
Notice no "dead valleys", or "flat valleys" to catch rain water, and debris. Amazing...isn't it, that a dumby like me can solve this problem which seems to be unsolvable by these geniuses.
The peaked portion of the sunroom is covered with Asbestos shingles, as is the main house. Instead of drawing shingles, I went to the website for the manufacturer of the actual tiles used, and just copied a sample, and pasted it on the roofs. As far as the material used for the flat/sloped section of the sunroom roof, it could be anything...preferably something durable. Shingles wouldn't do here as there isn't enough slope. The slope shown in this drawing is comparable to that which the old screened pateo had. The material used for that structure was sheet aluminum...that could be used here.
Obvious in the drawing is the Drip Edge, and Fascia Cover. The old pateo roof was positioned just beneath the Drip Edge and was nailed through the Facia Cover, and into Fascia Board.

If sealant is used under the material it should never leak...nailing alone won't hack it.
Some have asked how we can cope with these idiots. Fortunately for us, we're not the brightest either, and understand them completely. We called them...they didn't call us...the next time we will know...maybe.
