"?" we thought.
He's being funny. Or doesn't he know?.
His own people, possibly not knowing the "temporary permit" allowance had been rescinded, issued one for themselves so they could get on with our job.
During the two previous Hurricane years, the Inspector's Office being overwhelmed with Hurricane Damage inspections allowed CONtractors to issue their own to expedite repairs.
It was a noble thought...figuring they'd do us a favor. Not thinking, they ( the CONtractor ) put a five-day expiration on the phoney ( not phoney to them ) document.
Well...Having already been waiting months for things to start, this five day permit expires. We call the Inspector's Office to complain to them (the inspectors ) about them ( the Inspectors ), issuing such a temporary thing. Naturally, the Chief Inspector, who happened to answer the phone, found no record of his office issuing any Permits...temorary or othewise, and as fast as he could drive came to our place to see what was going on.
Then you-know-what hit the fan. We didn't know, but boy the CONtractor had to do some fancy foot-work to get out of that.
We now believe the CONtractor takes us for "Whistle Blowers"...which we "ain't".
Now I see it. The CONtractor boasts being able to put up a Sunroom in five-days...hence the "five-day-permit". The Project manager - whom we liked, and liked us, and the Production Department people also, wanting to put in our addition before Christmas, must think we are real "A-holes".
They could have kept us in the loop...how were we to know?
He continued: "Of all the many jobs we have completed ( and he mentioned a number ), never has there been such an issue over flashing when it came to the roof design. We are complying with their requirements in this area, and re-doing all the plans at our expense...a big undertaking. I can assure you this will be completed in time for me to advise you tomorrow of a sure start date...which will be very soon. We will put two of our teams on your job to finish this job as soon a possible. We may have to re-set the concrete form for the footer do to the rain since it was put in late November of last year."
The meeting ended. We left feeling for the first time confident that a SunRoom is in our near future.
The drizzle over the past night has ended...weather is forecast to be ideal for construction. In conversation between us this afternoon we both had the feeling the nice cement guys will be here tomorrow early to re-set the form, and begin the pour. More later.
